A dowry in marriage is indeed inseparable which is a symbol of seriousness of commitment and so on. However, in society, the determination of the dowry is greatly influenced by social status so that on the other hand it causes coercion so that prospective husbands do everything they can to carry out the marriage. Especially when getting a prospective wife with a high social status.

In general, the purpose of this study is to analyze the determination of the marriage dowry based on social status. While the specific purpose of this study is to analyze the determination of the marriage dowry based on social status which is a financial burden for prospective husbands as reviewed from the compilation of Islamic law (KHI). This research is a type of library research. In order for the marriage dowry to be free from financial burdens, the community, especially prospective husbands, should follow the guidelines in the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), which emphasizes the validity of the marriage contract, the balance of the rights and obligations of husband and wife, and the protection of women and children. KHI also encourages voluntary and harmonious marriages, thus creating peace in the family. The dowry is not related to social status, but only as a symbol of respect that makes it easier in marriage, of course adjusted to ability and agreement.
