Abstract

Excessive use of smartphones to the point of becoming dependent can potentially lead to nomophobia, a condition of anxiety when far from a smartphone. This research aims to determine the relationship between nomophobia and social interactions in school and university students. This research uses a relational quantitative approach with product moment analysis techniques. Data collection used the nomophobia scale with a reliability of 0.864 and a social interaction scale with a reliability of 0.780. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship (p<0.05) between nomophobia and social interactions. This means that the higher the nomophobia, the lower the individual's social interaction ability. Additional analysis results show that smartphone usage duration of more than 10 hours has an impact on the occurrence of nomophobia.
