Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) among high school students in Physics, specifically on the topic of electricity. Physics is often perceived as a complex subject, leading to low student learning outcomes, which necessitates innovative and student-centered teaching methods. Methods: The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model, utilizing a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The subjects were Grade XII students at MA Tahfidz Nurul Falah. Data were analyzed using the normalized Gain (N-gain) score to measure the improvement between pretest and posttest results. The findings showed a significant increase in student performance, with the average pretest score rising from 52.9 to a posttest average of 84.2. The calculated N-gain score was 0.7. Based on the results, the application of the PjBL model is classified as "High" in its effectiveness for enhancing HOTS. The implementation of PjBL successfully transformed student roles to be more active and analytical, proving that connecting curriculum with real-world problems is highly effective for mastering complex physics concepts.
